  • What Is Pelvic Steaming?

Pelvic steaming is when a person sits, squats or kneels over a pot of warm herbal steam for 10-30 minutes depending on what the users’ constitution is, and what imbalances they have . This body care practice is…

There are benefits and drawbacks to the different steam set-ups, so I’d recommend going with your personal preference. Here you will find examples of different options.

  • Pelvic Steaming Herbs

I have formulated four pelvic steam blends that are beneficial for different types of users and the imbalances they are working on resolving.

MY STEAM STORY

I began pelvic steaming as a "diy" user to resolve chronic pelvic issues. These were painful and irregular periods, infections (BV, HPV, UTI, pilonidal cysts), painful sex, vaginal scar tissue, “abnormal” paps, prolapse, and general pelvic pain tied to emotional pain from various forms of trauma (sexual trauma, a traumatic vaginal delivery with 3rd degree tearing and childhood trauma: spanking /paternal abandonment/ cultural assimilation/ exposure to domestic violence. After the first few times I steamed, I intuitively understood that I needed to learn more to really heal.

My 3-year course of study at the Pedristea Hydrotherapy Institute, guided by Keli Garza, has given me an in-depth knowledge of the many complex issues that can occur in the pelvis, both externally and internally, within the reproductive system. I have found that steaming can positively affect our digestive system, endocrine system (hormones), lymphatic system (water retention, edema), circulatory system, and nervous system, as it is an entirely holistic practice! I am now finishing practicum training to provide advanced steam plans for those who are pre-menarche through to post-menopause, as well as those without periods. I am Intern in the Peristeam Hydrotherpay Institute Clinic, and am also taking online clients if you are interested.

I am continually amazed at what healing takes place with this gentle, soothing, and pleasurable method. I am enchanted by this process of combining water, heat, and plants because it is so simple and natural, yet it is powerfully effective care. I could not get this depth of care and healing in a standard gynecological setting, even though steaming complements most medical situations.

I have been growing plant medicine and practicing with it for the last 20+ years, yet as human biology and ecology are constantly changed by societal forces, there will always be more to learn. Pelvic steaming and other forms of herbal medicine are currently considered alternative methods in Western healthcare. Their importance lies in the equity and inclusion they provide for those who do not fit into the Western model of health care⎯ another reason I am passionate about upholding effective folk practices!

I also offer steaming support for those with AD/HD, Autism and depression, and co-occurring conditions such as sensory processing and hypermobility who often have specific challenges in maintaining new practices.
